Puppy training often ends up looking more akin to human training. Before any person can properly train their dog, they first need to learn the correct way to train effectively. You need to learn how to properly train your animal first, and then start training your dog. This article provides excellent dog training tips that can help develop a better understanding of the process.
When crate training your new puppy or dog, there are a few tricks you can apply. If the dog doesn’t want to go inside the crate, put a rawhide bone in there and shut the door. This will make the puppy want to be let inside the crate to get the bone. If they do go into the crate, offer up praise and a treat.
When correcting your dog, be concise. There’s no point in ranting at your dog. Say no and redirect your dog to the desired behavior. Use a tone which is obviously one of consternation.
Avoid restraining two dogs too closely together. Their chains could get tangled up and as they struggle to get free; there is a good chance the dogs can get injured. A larger dog could cause a tangle so bad that the smaller dog could be choked by the leash.
Use the right size crate for effective crate training. Keep in mind, puppies do not stay small forever. Find a crate big enough for your adult dog. The ideal size would be one that doesn’t make your dog crowded when turning around or laying down.
It is not difficult to teach a dog how to roll over, and having some treats on hand makes it easier. First, place your dog in the down position. Next, hold the treat close to the floor on one side of the dog’s head, and slowly bringing it upwards and over to the dog’s other side. He will naturally use his nose to follow the treat, thus rolling over his whole body. Upon seeing him roll over, issue the command.
You can then repeat the command to the point where he rolls over without the added incentive of a treat. Do not let a lack of early success frustrate you. This takes repetition to nail down, but once you do, you will have the star dog on the block.
Now that the people who are interested in training their new pet dog have, hopefully, learned some new tricks, they can proceed to pass them along to their pets. Once a dog is on its way to learning, the owner will begin to appreciate the dedication that he or she has shown for doing the right thing for man’s best friend.
